When I was a kid, seeing the
roti man (in Malay, bread is called
roti. Roti man = bread man)
was a real treat. He comes around in his motorcycle packed with all sorts of goodies - breads, candies, junk food and has a container (where all the breads are hanging off in the picture) that has ice cream in it. Back in the 80s, 1 ringgit can get you two pieces of cream bread, a packet of cheese rings and an ice cream. Great deal for a kid! I saw this roti man a few days ago near my uncle's house and felt a sudden urge to go over and buy something. Got a piece of
pandan bread, cream bread and two packets of cheese rings for $1.80. Honestly, where can you get that these days? Had to ask him to pose for a picture as I don't know how many more of them will be around in years to come.
