Friday May 13th, my last day at work...
An all American themed party; mini American flags decorated the courtyard and dishes after dishes of American delicacies filled the tables. My colleagues and friends have found it rather disconcerting that after having been here for 8 years, I have yet had my first go at Mac N' Cheese, shack burgers, PB&J sandwich...hence the staples of American food idea. Thank you, Sarah, for planning such a memorable party!
The end of my Pep career marks the beginning of a new chapter of my life. Leaving your job is not just leaving your job when you're a foreigner. Leaving your job means leaving the country, lifestyle and friends who have become a significant part of your life. Life as a foreigner is interesting in itself--try life as a foreigner working in theatre. With the ever changing INS rules and regulations (am facing the reality that they now own every single documentation of my existence), you never know where you are going to end up.
My countdown calendar says I have 16 days before I leave. Farewell festivities are still going on. Packing is...non existent.
